ABOUT AMBER

Amber? What Is It?

Since ancient times Baltic and North Sea coasts were the place to find fossilized resin called amber.  Color, transparency, flammability and capacity to charge electrostatically by rubbing were the main markers of the resin at those times. At present scientists believe that the most important chemical characteristics of amber is its acid. The succinic acid singles out amber from other fossilized resin. Scientists claim that Baltic amber is hardened conifer resin from Eocene period, which was 50 million years ago.

The world’s largest amber deposit is in the current Kaliningrad Region (former East Prussia Sambia peninsular). Amber is found not only on the Baltic coast (Kaliningrad Region, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Germany, Denmark and Southern Sweden), but also in Belarus and Ukraine (Kharkov and Kiev areas).

The white amber is the most valued kind of amber since ancient times, as it resembles royal ivory. This kind of amber is very rare. More than 70% of all amber found is of all shades of yellow: from clear yellow to dark yellow, brown or tan.

Amber contains the succinic acid, which occurs naturally and has no toxins, does not accumulate in the body tissues and has no addictive properties. This product was successfully used for infants to treat inflammations. There is proof to its efficiency in the treatment of bronchial asthma, pneumonia, respiratory infections and reducing allergic reactions. Amber acid is recommended as a preventive measure against viral infections. It has a positive effect on the cellular energy metabolism and boosts immune system. The product is recommended for both the disease treatment as well as prophylaxis.

How to Distinguish the Real Amber From the Fake One?

If you would like to check whether your amber is real, you need to make a salt solution. Put one or even two tablespoons of salt into the glass of water and allow it to dissolve. Throw the pieces of amber into this solution. Real amber will float and plastic will descend to the bottom.

Hot needle test could be also useful. You can never make a hole in the real amber unless the needle is as hot at 370 degrees Celsius. If you have plastic in your hands, you can easily make a hole in it with a hot needle.

Another possibility is to burn the piece of amber if it is not too precious for you. Real amber burns with dark fire and emits dark smoke; has an intensive smell of resin reminding of incense. After extinguishing it the smell becomes even more intense and has a long-lasting effect in the room.

One more simple test is rubbing the piece of amber into some woolen fabric; the real amber gets warm and attracts small pieces of paper.

A piece of advice!

It is necessary to clean your amber periodically as it absorbs everything to itself.  First, rinse it under running lukewarm water. Then put it into a glass of one spoon sea salt and water solution for a few hours. If it is long since it was purified, keep it in the solution longer. After that remove and rinse again. This way amber purifies and becomes as new again. Once a month charge your amber with the sunlight energy; leave it on the windowsill in the open air for a day. When it is charged like this, it protects against evil and strengthens your health. It also helps to improve your personality as well as attract success, love and wealth.
